The death toll from Wednesday's
earthquake in central Italy has risen to 292 after two bodies
were pulled out of the rubble today, the head of the Rieti
chapter of the civil protection department, Titti Postiglione,
said Monday. Some 231 are dead at the Lazio mountain village of
Amatrice, 11 at nearby Accumoli and 50 at Arquata del Tronto in
the neighbouring Marche region, he said. Some 2,900 survivors
are being housed in tent camps, while around 10 people are
missing. The 6.2-magnitude quake struck at 03:36 Wednesday in
the central Apennines, its epicentre close to Accumoli.
