European Council President
Donald Tusk said Thursday he will do "everything in his power"
to help Italy after yesterday's deadly earthquake.
"I am ready to do everything in my power to help the
authorities and the Italian people at this time of pain and
suffering," he said in a letter to Italian Premier Matteo Renzi
and President Sergio Mattarella.
"I send my deepest sympathies to the Italian people for the
loss of human life and the destruction caused by the devastating
earthquake in central Italy," he wrote.
"My thoughts are with the stricken people, the families of
those who have lost their lives, those who are desperately
waiting for news, and those wounded," said Tusk, adding his
"heartfelt thanks" for the rescuers.
