A hotel in the Lazio town of
Amatrice whose restaurant was famous for the local dish
'spaghetti all'amatriciana', the Hotel Roma, was flattened by
Wednesday's 6.0-magnitude earthquake. The annual festival of the
dish named after the town was scheduled to start Saturday and
there were already many tourists in Amatrice. Amatrice was one
of the towns worst hit by the tremor that struck mountainous
areas between Lazio, Umbria and Marche before dawn, killing at
least 73 people.
