Central and northern regions were
bracing for a further rise in temperatures on Monday as an
African anticyclone pushed its way across Spain into central and
eastern Europe.
Cooler conditions and isolated thunderstorms were forecast
in southern regions, meteorologists added.
In Italy the highest temperatures were expected in Aosta,
Turin, Genoa, Milan, Bolzano, Florence, Grosseto, Rome, Viterbo,
Terni and Benevento.
In the south and along the Adriatic coast cooler air
currents arriving from the Balkans were set to keep temperatures
down until Wednesday.
The hot weather is expected to last until the end of the
month, when cold northerly winds should bring temperatures down.
