Digos anti-terror police said
Tuesday they are investigating a Tunisian national and former
long-time Puglia resident named as Chokri Chafroud for possible
connections with an attacker who killed 84 people on Bastille
Day last week in Nice.
Investigators have searched his home in the Puglia town of
Gravina, which he shared with two countrymen, and are
questioning his relatives and friends in the Bari area.
French police say Chafroud may have acted as a go-between
for the Albanian suspects who provided the Nice attacker with
firearms.
So far investigators have failed to turn up any connection
between Chafroud and organized crime or Islamist extremism,
sources said.
