Prosecutors on Friday authorized
the seizure of all paperwork on the allocation and management of
EU and regional funds in connection with the single
Andria-Corato rail line, where a head-on commuter train
collision killed 23 people last Tuesday.
Investigators want to find out why the tract was never
widened to two tracks, and why EU funds that should have been
spent to modernize the Andria-Corato tract were moved from the
2007-2013 budget to the following one (2014-2020).
Prosecutors gave orders to search the premises of
Ferrotramviaria rail company, the Puglia regional offices, and
"wherever (that paperwork) may be".
