Italy's biggest trade union
confederation, the leftwing GCIL, said Friday that it has
delivered 3.3 million signatures to the supreme court calling
for three referenda on labour issues.
The proposed referenda are for the abolition of vouchers
used to pay for occasional work, the rehiring of all workers who
are illegitimately sacked and a vote on responsibility in
business contracts.
CGIL said it has collected over 1.1 million signatures for
each referendum.
The head of CGIL, Susanna Camusso, said the confederation
is now hoping the supreme Cassation court will declare the
referenda admissible.
"We are ready for a vote as we are convinced that we are
right", she also said.
The CGIL head also said on Friday that the confederation is
collecting signatures to promote a bill on a charter of
universal labour rights.
