Police conducted more than 20
raids on Friday in eight regions of Italy as part of an
investigation into international trafficking of so-called "new"
drugs purchased online from the Netherlands, ANSA sources said.
The probe is investigating 120 people in connection with
synthetic drugs including mephedrone, Ghb (known as the "date
rape" drug), and 3-MMC.
During the Friday raids, police seized 50 grams of drugs
sent from the Netherlands, along with computers, tablets and
other computer equipment.
The raids took place in Genoa, Turin, Milan, Bergamo,
Brescia, Como, Verona, Udine, Trieste, Florence, Prato, Perugia,
and Lecce.
Over the course of the investigation, which also involved
the Netherlands in collaboration with the EU agency Eurojust,
police have arrested 22 people and intercepted 200 shipments of
drugs totaling more than three kilograms overall.
