Arezzo prosecutors on Thursday
notified three people they are under investigation for
manslaughter in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy
yesterday.
Giacomo Brancadoro died after being crushed by a woodpile
in the woods surrounding the hamlet of Stia in the Tuscan
countryside in Arezzo province.
The victim and three friends had climbed onto the woodpile,
which gave way under their weight. Two of the boys were
unharmed, and a third was hospitalized with a fractured ankle.
The boys were on a camping trip with a group from Milan.
Investigators are probing the camping trip chaperon and two
owners of the company that piled the wood in the clearing for
possible negligence or violation of safety regulations.
The child's body has been returned to his family for burial.
