The probe into the alleged murder
and sexual abuse of 6-year-old Fortuna Loffredo could be
extended to new suspects, ANSA sources said on Monday.
Last week a neighbour, Raimondo Caputo, was issued a
arrest warrant for allegedly repeatedly sexually abusing
Loffredo and then throwing her off a balcony to her death on
June 24, 2014, after she resisted his umpteenth sexual advance.
Two other residents of the Parco Verde complex at Caivano,
near Naples, are under investigation for allegedly misleading
the probe by giving false statements about the death of Fortuna.
Prosecutors believe other residents may also have taken
steps to throw the investigation off track as they also look
into a suspected paedophilia ring.
Caputo was already in jail over separate allegations of
abuse of one of his partner's children.
The partner is under house arrest for allegedly failing to
report this abuse.
Another of her children, Antonio Giglio aged four, also
plunged to his death in April 2013, and there are now suspicions
he may have died in the same way as Fortuna.
There is also the case of Salvatore Mucci, the person who
was the first to assist Fortuna and took her to hospital - he
was arrested in December 2014 for allegedly abusing his
12-year-old daughter.
His partner was accused of the same crime months later.
A lawyer representing the father and grandparents of
Antonio Giglio, meanwhile, said Monday that he was calling for
the boy's body to be exhumed and re-examined.
"We are only on the first page of a book of horror,
violence, degradation and crime the likes of which have never
been read before and would be beyond the imagination of even the
most gory director," said the lawyer, Angelo Pisani.
"Antonio's fall was not accidental and it's not unlikely
that it took place in the same situation as Fortuna's".
