Premier Matteo Renzi on Monday
slammed the "unseemly" school hiring policies of governments
that preceded his and claimed credit for launching a competitive
entrance examination not seen in 20 years to give part-time
teachers a steady post. "We have put in three billion euros," he
replied to a woman who was protesting the government's
teacher-hiring policies. He said the government had sought to
give jobs to those who had acquired a Constitutional right to
one.
