Gianluca Gemelli, the
boyfriend of former industry minister Federica Guidi who is
among the suspects in an oil-sector probe in the southern region
of Basilicata, arrived at Potenza's judicial complex for
questioning by prosecutors on Friday.
"He has come to Potenza to clarify everything," said
Gemelli's lawyer, Paolo Carbone.
Gemelli is being probed for conspiracy to commit corruption
and falsely claiming influence over a public official in order
to obtain bribes.
Investigators said the Sicilian oil-industry businessman is
a "key person" for the interests of the same "clan" in
Basilicata, both for the Tempa Rossa oil field project in
Corleto Perticara in the province of Potenza, and in Sicily for
the Port of Augusta in the province of Siracusa.
Guidi, who is not under investigation, resigned on March 31
over a phone tap in which she is heard discussing a government
amendment on the Tempa Rossa oil field with Gemelli.
