Massimo Bossetti, a construction
worker on trial for the 2010 murder of 13-year-old schoolgirl
Yara Gambirasio, testified on Friday that he never saw or met
the victim.
Bossetti said everyone who had taken the witness stand
before him was lying.
"I'm not lying, which is what the people who have taken
this place before me have done," Bossetti said.
"With the exception of my defence team they've all lied,"
he said.
Bossetti said he didn't exactly remember November 26, 2010,
the day Gambirasio was last seen in front of a sports centre in
the town of Brembate di Sopra, but that he recalled buying small
gifts for his children at the newsstand in front of the sports
centre sometime during that period.
When the prosecutor told him that none of the news agents
in the area recalled him being a customer, Bossetti said they
lied.
The father of three is on trial in Bergamo following his
arrest in 2014 after extensive DNA testing of the local
population tracked him down as the only donor of genetic trace
found on the victim's body and clothing.
