Tenor Andrea Bocelli and
checkers champ Michele Borghetti participated in a day against
gambling addiction at the Tuscan resort town of Forte dei Marmi
on Thursday.
The day included a checkers tournament at the local high
school, in which Borghetti played 15 students at 15 different
tables at the same time.
The student with the most points ended up playing against
Borghetti along with Bocelli.
The initiative received messages of support from Education
Minister Stefania Giannini and National Olympic Committee
President Giovanni Malagò.
Gambling addiction has soared in Italy in recent years.
