Applause rang out across the
Florence basilica where friends and family of murdered American
Ashley Olsen said their final goodbyes at her funeral on Friday.
As the 35-year-old's body was carried out in a wooden
casket, many of her loved ones began clapping in celebration of
the life of the young woman.
Olsen's father Walter and mother Jennifer were in the front
row of Santo Spirito basilica, while behind them sat her
boyfriend, the artist Federico Fiorentini.
It was him that found Olsen dead in her flat in Florence
January 8.
Many of Olsen's American friends had brought flowers, which
were placed on top of the coffin. Her beloved dog Scout remained
in the church throughout.
Prosecutors say Olsen was killed by a Senegalese immigrant
she met at a nightclub, after a night of cocaine-fuelled sex
followed by a fight.
