Prosecutors in the northern city
of Ivrea said Wednesday they opened a manslaughter investigation
after an Alzheimer's patient died after drinking bleach.
Emiliano Gaudio, 78, died in Chivasso after apparently
drinking the cleaning fluid in a home for the elderly in
Volpiano.
Prosecutors ordered documents seized from the hospital and
rest home and arranged for an autopsy to be carried out
Thursday.
The victim's relatives may bring a civil action in the
case.
