Payments of corporate tax Ires and VAT in Italy were up by 2.3% and 3.1% respectively in the first eight months of this year "confirming an economic trend picture improving compared to last year," the Treasury ministry said Monday.
The increase in VAT payments was worth as much as 2.16 billion euros due in part to split payment that was up by 3.8% or 2.36 billion euros though payments on imports from outside the European Union still declined, officials said.
Tax collected as a result of checks and inspections was substantially stable over the first eight months of 2015, just 0.3% less than the same period last year or some 17 million euros "while receipts from gaming increased by 1.2% (90 million euros).
Revenue from payments of Irpef personal income tax were up by 4.3% in the first eight months, an increase of 4,103 million euros mainly due to payments from employees that amounted to an increase of 3,456 million euros.
Part of the higher income tax takings by the state was due to a new payment system of gross tax before tax relief payments such as the 80 euro bonus which for public sector employees takes effect a year after it is attributed.
A statistically homogenous comparison of income tax receipts showed an increase of 2.8% in Irpef payments, or 3,003 million euros, compared to the first eight months of 2014, the Treasury said.
