A court on Thursday sentenced
18 former managers at Italcantieri ship-building company to a
total of 110 years six months in prison for the manslaughter of
44 workers who died due to asbestos exposure at the Monfalcone
shipyard in Gorizia province.
The defendants were also sentenced to pay damages of 1.3
million euros to surviving relatives.
The sentencing exceeded prosecutors' expectations, as they
had requested 80 years eight months total.
