Workers at Marangoni tire-maker
demonstrated Wednesday at the factory gates after the death last
night of a colleague who they said collapsed from extremely high
temperatures inside the plant during a heat wave.
Carmine Minchino, 54, fell ill at the plant in Rovereto, in
the northern Trentino region.
He was working in the curing section, the final part of the
tire-making process which involves placing assembled tires into
incandescent molds.
He died in hospital overnight.
An autopsy will ascertain the cause of death.
Trentino is among the regions hardest-hit by the current
heat wave, which local emergency services said has caused heart
attacks and other heat-related illnesses.
