A 38-year-old woman has died in
hospital in the southern Italian town of Conversano after
undergoing an assisted-fertility treatment, ANSA sources said
Thursday.
The woman, Arianna Acrivoulis, was a resident of the town
of Bitritto, near Bari.
She is said to have died after a fine-needle aspiration in
an ovary on Wednesday.
Carabinieri police have seized the patient's clinical file
and two doctors have been put under investigation by Bari
prosecutors, sources said.
"We are devastated. This should not have happened," the
dead woman's sister Alessandra told ANSA.
"My brother was outside the operating theatre waiting and
then they came out and said what happened".
