The Supreme Council of Magistrates
(CSM), the judiciary's self-governing body, will appeal against
a regional administrative court's (TAR) annulment of the
appointment of top anti-mafia investigator Francesco Lo Voi as
chief prosecutor of Palermo, CSM vice president Giovanni Legnini
said Friday. The appeal will be to Italy's highest
administrative court, the Council of State. "We mean to defend
the CSM's autonomy of assessment," Legnini said. The CSM's
independence, he said, was "guaranteed by the Constitution" and
"we need to give a secure guide to one of Italy's top offices".
