One in two Italian women and seven in
10 men could be overweight in 15 years, the World Health
Organisation (WHO) said Wednesday at a European congress on
obesity held in Prague.
The number of overweight women in Italy will rise from 39%
in 2010 to 50% in 2030 while the number of obese Italian women
will rise from 10% to 15%.
The situation is expected to be worse for Italian males,
with the percentage of overweight men expected to increase from
58% in 2010 to 70% in 2030, with obese men increasing from 12%
to 20% in 2030.
The EU country with the most overweight males in 2030 will
be Ireland with 89% - of whom half will be obese - while the
nation with the most overweight women will be Belgium with 89%
and the country with the most obese women will be Britain with
26%, according to the report.
