Nearly 100 migrants from a group
of 361 rescued and brought to the Sicilian port of Pozzallo were
placed in isolation because they are suspected of carrying the
scabies skin infection, authorities said Tuesday.
The group, including 10 children and 67 women, was made of
migrants from Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia and Bangladesh.
A child with a fever was taken to hospital as well as eight
pregnant women.
The report came at the same time that 150 people in a group
of 675 migrants who arrived in the Sicilian port of Augusta on
Monday were put into isolation as they were suspected of having
chickenpox or scabies, ANSA sources said Tuesday.
Local doctors ordered the move as a preventative measure to
stop contagion, the sources said.
