A 65-year-old pediatrician who was well-known in Genoa killed himself on Monday by jumping from the Monumental Bridge in the town's centre, leaving a note that read "sometimes the short-sighted judiciary kills", investigators said.
The doctor's wife allegedly had also planned to commit suicide but hesitated after her husband jumped, and was saved by police after passers-by alerted authorities.
The woman was taken to hospital and is being treated for shock.
Investigators say the suicide note referred to the recent arrest of the doctor's son, a pharmacist who was arrested April 2 in connection with sales of anti-tumor drugs abroad.
