Italian financier Marco Marenco
has been arrested in the Swiss city of Lugano, Corriere del
Ticino newspaper reported Friday.
The 59-year-old fugitive from Italian justice is wanted on
charges including fraudulent bankruptcy, embezzlement and tax
evasion in the 3.5-billion-euro crack-up of legendary hat maker
to the stars, Borsalino.
Marenco's German-based holding company holds a controlling
share in the hatmaker, which has coiffed celebrities from Al
Capone to Japanese Emperor Hirohito to many stars in Hollywood
in its 150 years in business.
Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jonny Depp, Alain Delon and Madonna
even starred in a 1970 movie named after the famous hat.
Italy has opened extradition proceedings, sources said.
