Italian police on Wednesday
arrested a number of suspects accused of committing organized
crime activities in Rome for the powerful, Calabrian 'Ndrangheta
mafia. A policeman was also arrested.
The main suspects, who are members of the Crea family and
hail from the deep southern Italian town of Stilo, located in
the ball of Italy's boot, are accused of facilitating
'Ndrangheta criminal activity through the possession and sale of
narcotics, the illegal possession of arms, and abuse of access
to computerized information.
Investigators claim the organized crime group managed a
variety of commercial activities in the Roman neighborhood of
Primavalle, integrating itself into the economic, business and
social fabric of the neighborhood and imposing its presence on
the territory.
A member of the Roman Flying Squad was arrested for abuse
of office, and is accused of illegally collecting information
regarding the investigation.
