Police on Tuesday arrested 12 alleged members of a clan belonging to the Neapolitan Camorra mafia following a probe into a local turf war that also involved filming shoot-outs between members of rival groups in the presence of terrified local residents.
The suspects all allegedly belonging to the D'Amico clan based in the Conocal neighbourhood of Naples, which is engaged in a fierce turf war with the rival De Micco clan for control of illicit activities in the area.
Footage recorded by investigators using hidden cameras shows four people on mopeds opening fire at a rival group as young bystanders, including a small boy, run across the road in fright.
Another gunman then appears from a side road and beings to shoot. The 12 suspects apprehended on Tuesday were arrested on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and possession of firearms, with mafia method as an aggravating circumstance.
