Police on Thursday dismantled
an international stolen-car-trafficking ring based in the
southern Italian region of Campania.
Thirteen people were arrested in the sweep on charges of
criminal association for theft and possession and recycling of
stolen vehicles.
The racket dealing primarily in sport utility vehicles
(SUV) and luxury cars had its operating base in Naples and
offshoots in nearby Caserta, Bari in the southern Puglia region
and Brescia in northern Lombardy.
Investigators say the stolen automobiles were stamped and
sent abroad for sale on the international stolen goods market.
