(ANSA) Rome, January 23 - Customs officials backed by finance guards seized a consignment of 150,000 counterfeit condoms Friday at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport after discovering that they were past their sell-by date and "dangerous," police said.
The contraceptives arrived at the airport from China on their way to another country outside the European Union in southern Europe and were labelled as the products of a well-known international brand of rubber.
However a brand manager called to the scene examined the condoms and pronounced them fakes with "expired quality and therefore dangerous." The merchandise was seized and a report made to judicial authorities regarding the fraud.
