Cancer is the leading
cause of death in the EU, Eurostat statistics agency said
Tuesday.
More than one in four, or 26.3%, die from the disease in
the EU while cancer claims 45.2% of lives in Italy.
The data emerging from research carried out in 2011 shows
cancer-related death rose by 6.3% in the last 10 years.
Lung cancer proved to be the most lethal with 20.8% of
cancer-related deaths, followed by bowel cancer (11.9%), breast
cancer (7.2%), pancreas cancer (6.1%) and prostate cancer
(5.7%), according to Eurostat.
