A Milan court on Wednesday
sentenced a computer consultant to ten years in prison for the
voluntary manslaughter of a taxi driver in February.
Davide Guglielmo Righi, 49, bludgeoned Alfredo Famoso, 65,
to death with a four-pack of bottled water.
Famoso died in hospital after being a coma for two days.
Righi said he acted in self-defence after the driver got
out of his vehicle, but eyewitnesses said no argument occurred
before the fatal blow.
Righi flew into a rage when the taxi allegedly put him and
his nine-months pregnant girlfriend in danger as they tried to
cross the street.
The court also sentenced him to pay 100,000 euros in
compensation to the victim's widow, 80,000 euros to each of his
children, 30,000 to each of his brothers, and 12,000 euros to a
Milan public health clinic.
