Police in the city of Latina near Rome on Wednesday seized five fake death notices announcing the "premature death" of local magistrate Lucia Aielli.
Aielli is investigating mob infiltration in what is the second-largest city in the central Lazio region.
The death notices were found near the judge's daughters' high school and in other parts of town, police said.
Anti-Mafia Commission President Rosy Bindi said government "will not leave on their own magistrates and law enforcement carrying on difficult investigations into mafia infiltration of southern Lazio".
The Commission will soon visit Latina to take stock of the situation, Bindi added.
