The parents and ex-husband
of a Bangladeshi woman went on trial Friday for child abuse and
aggravated sexual abuse of a minor for selling their daughter
into marriage for 30,000 euros.
The forcible marriage to a 36-year-old man took place in
the spring of 2006, when the victim was 12 years old.
She eventually managed to escape her violent, abusive and
alcoholic husband, finally reporting him and her parents to
police in 2011.
The parents face charges of child abuse while the
ex-husband, who consummated the marriage with the child on their
wedding night, is on trial for aggravated sexual abuse and
sexual acts with a minor.
