Lawyers for accused killer
Massimo Bossetti claimed Monday that a Carabinieri police
forensic lab report proves the DNA found on the murder victim is
inconclusive.
A court in the northern city of Bergamo last week rejected
a defence motion the release from pre-trial custody of Bossetti,
the chief suspect in the 2010 murder of 13-year-old Yara
Gambirasio.
The court ruled that evidence against Bossetti was
convincing and he should remain in jail because he could kill
again.
Four different forensic lab tests have confirmed the DNA
found on Gambirasio's leggings and underwear belonged to
Bossetti, a 44-year-old construction worker.
The suspect, who claims he has no idea how his DNA got on
Gambirasio's underwear, was taken into custody June 16 and
charged with her murder the following day.
Investigators have used telephone records, surveillance
video, and testimony from colleagues and residents of Brembate
Sopra, where Bossetti lived at the time of the murder, to
demolish his alibi that he was at work on the day of the crime.
