(See related) Police said Friday they had recovered the body of Jessica Mambretti, whose dead nine-year-old son had been found earlier in the mountains north of Bergamo. A shepherd who found their deserted tent with clothing, a cellphone, and antidepressants had raised the alert one day earlier.
An autopsy on the boy, Patrick Lorenzi, found no obvious signs of violence, authorities said Friday.
Prosecutors have opened a murder investigation into the death of the boy who was found Thursday night.
That triggered a search for Mambretti, 40.
The shepherd who found their tent had used the phone's speed dial and connected with Mambretti's mother, who said she had been worried for her daughter.
Mambretti lived in Ponteranica, just outside Bergamo, and police said she was known to social service agencies there.
She had separated from her son's father Marco several years earlier.
