L'Osservatore Romano on Monday called the bowing to a mob boss
during a religious procession in Calabria last Tuesday
"something that still occurs" and a "perversion of religious
sentiment".
The newspaper said that events like the Oppido Mamertina
procession happen "where the perversion of religious sentiment
often accompanies criminal activity and acquiescence, dictated
by fear or interest, unfortunately still widespread among the
people".
