(ANSA) - Dubai, April 21 - Japan's poisonous pufferfish, or fugu, will be among the exotic fauna on the menu at Milan Expo 2015 along with Zimbabwean crocodile and chocolate-covered bugs from Thailand, sources said Tuesday.
Pufferfish, which is banned in the European Union, has been given an exemption to head to Expo for its first Italy appearance. The poisonous fish - whose flesh contains a deadly nerve toxin and can be fatal if prepared by an unlicensed chef - will be delivered in secure packaging and any leftovers will be destroyed, according to Coldiretti farmers association.
It will be showcased with other gastronomical curiosities from around the world, including Thailand's famed chocolate-covered scorpions, giant grubs, dehydrated termites, scorpion and grasshopper vodka as well as Chinese and Vietnamese snake wine, and chocolate-covered crickets and larvae.
