(ANSA) - Cagliari, April 21 - Some 26 million meals worth an estimated total of 320 million euros will be served at Milan Expo 2015, farmers' association Coldiretti said Tuesday.
This will translate into approximately 450,000 tonnes of food served.
However, Coldiretti said the real blowout will take place outside the Universal Exposition fairground in the Lombard capital, in the restaurants, pizzerias and other food outlets serving the eight million expected foreign tourists during the course of their Italian stay. Foreign visitors in Italy for the six-month world's fair are expected to spend roughly 1 billion euros on meals and a further 750 million euros on take-home food products, the farmers' association said.
Some 1.5 million breakfasts, 17 million lunches, 4.4 million snacks and 3.1 million dinners are expected to be served on the Expo site between the formal opening on May 1 and closure on October 31. This translates into an average of over 140,000 meals a day.
