Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio Visco
said Friday it was time for a structural fiscal reform.
"More than 40 years have gone by since the last comprehensive
tax reform, I think that, instead of talking about 80 euros,
about a lowering of taxes under certain income thresholds, a
much more careful and structural evaluation must be carried out
by the experts," he said.
Visco also said budgetary policy could be "more prudent" in
the face of "concrete risks that we are running".
Visco was speaking at the presentation of former economy
minister Pier Carlo Padoan's new book The Narrow Path And
Beyond.
