Brexit represents a major
opportunity but Italy is not ready to take advantage of it,
industrial employers group Confindustria's study centre said
Wednesday.
Brexit may weigh on Italian exports "with some 23 billion
euros at stake", it said, "but it may also generate
opportunities", with more direct inward investment to the tune
of 26 billion euros.
This would boost GDP by 5.9 billion euros a year, or 0.4% of
GDP, the study centre said.
But Italy is "unprepared to grasp these opportunities" due to
structural and institutional reasons such as a "government
majority that has not hesitated at times to take an antagonistic
stance against the European Commission".
