Italian retail sales fell by
0.3% in value terms in July with respect to June and by 0.2%
compared to the same month last year, Istat said on Monday.
It is the first month-on-month fall that the national
statistics agency has reported since March.
The decline was largely down to 0.5% drop in sales of
non-food goods, while food sales were up 0.3%.
Istat said July's summer sales were not enough to raise
fashion spending and consumption as a whole.
It said clothes sales were down 0.2% on July 2015, while
sales of footwear and leather items dropped 0.4%.
