Italian engineering and construction
company Salini Impregilo has landed the first lot of work, worth
$1.95 billion, to build the world's highest dam at Rogun in
Tajikistan.
The work will be part of a $3.9-billion framework accord
between Salini Impregilo and the Tajik government.
The dam is to be built on the Vakhsh River in Pamir, one of
central Asia's main mountain ranges.
The accord between Salini Impregilo and OJSC, the
government-controlled Rogun Hydropower Project, envisages the
allocation of four lots in all.
Salini Impregilo is expected to get the remaining three
lots by September 30.
