FSTE MIB index on the Milan stock exchange advanced by 3.47%
before dropping to 3.27% in early afternoon trading Friday as
bank stocks bounced back after Thursday's losses.
BPER was up 12.9%, followed by Banco Popolare (+10.1%) and
UniCredit and Ubi (+8.3%). BPM rose 7.6%, MPS was up 7%, Intesa
added 6.2% and Mediobanca jumped by 5.9%. Telecom also posted
gains (+5%). Mediaset advanced 4.5% as the board of directors is
expected to greenlight a deal with Vivendi at today's meeting.
