Telecom Italia said Friday it will
not withdraw a 300% hike in the price of phone calls from land
lines set to go into effect today.
Communications authority AGCOM earlier issued Telecom
Italia an injunction against the hike, saying it "does not
appear to be justified by overall economic conditions".
Telecom says it "acted in full respect of the regulations,
the competition, and customers' rights".
The company on February 29 announced it was raising prices
from 10 to 20 cents a minute and introducing a 20-cent charge
when a call gets answered.
