The government is to meet
regional governors Thursday on four billion euros of regional
spending cuts in the 2015 budget, the office of Premier Matteo
Renzi said Tuesday.
The talks, starting at 0:800 local, will aim to agree on
where the cuts can be made without slashing services or raising
local taxes.
The regions, led by Piedmont Governor Sergio Chiamparino,
have said there should be more cuts in central government
spending than in their tight budgets but Renzi has replied that
there are layers of pork and waste that can easily be stripped
away.
