Italian Premier Matteo Renzi said
Friday that he will tour Fiat Chrysler factories in Detroit in
late September.
He spoke during meetings with senior officials from Fiat
Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) as well as three workers who
presented the premier with the first Jeep Renegade model to be
produced in Italy.
The workers came from the Fiat factory in Melfi, which is
now producing Jeeps, a brand brought into the newly created FCA
by Chrysler.
The merger of Fiat and Chrysler became official in January.
The workers said they were "full of enthusiasm" for the
merger and new production plans which they said will help to
ensure the plant's future.
The Jeep Renegade produced in Melfi will go on sale in
September and will be produced in Italy for both domestic and
international markets.
