Italy has been roiled by a row over
an allegedly 'racist' remark by a northern Italian TV anchor who
told a seven-year-old Calabrian soccer fan that "you'll be
seeking a job up here with us" after the boy celebrated
Cosenza's relegation-averting win over Vicenza earlier this
month.
The anchor apologised on the website of Veneta TvA Monday saying
"it was an unhappy remark that I could have avoided and which
showed a lack of tact and politeness".
Northern Italian soccer fans regularly indulge in "territorially
racist" denigration of their poorer southern counterparts.
