The nationalist populist League
party on Tuesday withdrew an amendment introducing chemical
castration for rapists.
It said this was due to opposition from its government
partner, the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S).
"We are aware that this amendment, at this stage, is not
shared by the M5S," said the League's civil service minister,
Giulia Bongiorno.
Earlier Interior Minister Matteo Salvini's party said it was
still set to file an amendment to a violence against women bill
envisaging chemical castration, sources at the House justice
committee said Tuesday.
Salvini has repeatedly called for chemical castration for
rapists.
