Government allies the 5-Star
Movement (M5S) and the League have agreed that Rome economics
lecturer Pasquale Tridico will replace the outgoing head of the
INPS social security and pensions agency, Tito Boeri, M5S and
League sources said Wednesday.
Former labour ministry secretary general Francesco Verbaro
will become Tridico's No.2, the sources said.
The term of Boeri, a vocal critic of the government's
policies, ended on Saturday.
Tridico, who lectures at Roma Tre University, is credited
with being the brain behind the government's new basic income, a
flagship M5S campaign pledge.
