Centre-left councillors were
expelled from the Turin council room after protesting in favour
of a high-speed rail (TAV) line from Turin to Lyon on Monday.
The anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) majority is set
to vote against the TAV line.
Among those expelled was former Turin mayor and Democratic
Party (PD) bigwig Piero Fassino who said it was the first time
he had been expelled.
M5S national leader, Deputy Premier and Industry and Labour
Minister Luigi Di Maio, said earlier that "renegotiating" the
link was in the government contract with the anti-migrant
Euroskeptic League, which is however in favour of completing the
project.
